Our program is all about delivering situations and support that guide our interns to future success while tapping the power of their unique skills, perspectives and experiences to continue to move our organization – and our industry – forward.
 
Dive into Urban Science’s vibrant intern community by actively participating in networking events and social activities with over 20 interns. Our interns become a part of diverse teams including those that develop software and IT solutions, analyze data, support client deliverables and corporate teams. Throughout the program, you’ll expand your knowledge through insightful lunch-and-learns with business leaders and unique learning opportunities that cover broader business topics and valuable career development skills. Additionally, you'll gain practical skills through scrum training sessions, professionalism workshops and the chance to tackle meaningful projects that make a real impact.

 

THE ROLE

 

Urban Science is looking for a curious, organized, and people-focused Human Resources Intern to join our fast-paced team. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience across all HR functions from recruiting and onboarding to employee engagement and operations, while contributing to real projects that drive our people strategy forward. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative, data-driven environment where innovation and performance go hand in hand. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL DO

 

As an HR Intern, this role is designed to help you connect what you’re learning in your HR or business coursework to real‑world workplace experiences. You’ll learn by observing, assisting, and collaborating with experienced HR professionals while gaining exposure to how HR supports employees across multiple domestic and international locations, both in‑office and remote. Under guidance, you’ll be introduced to core HR areas such as onboarding, employee relations, performance management, leaves of absence, and understanding different employment regulations—primarily through shadowing, coordination, and administrative support. You’ll help keep HR documentation organized, support ongoing HR initiatives and change management efforts, and collaborate with HR team members locally and remotely. In addition, you’ll take hands‑on responsibility for select office operations, including managing employee access badges, parking access, and ordering, managing, and replenishing office supplies and snacks, contributing to a positive and welcoming employee experience.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR


This internship is a strong fit for students who are curious, detail‑oriented, and interested in how people practices support a global, technology‑driven consulting organization. The role is designed to provide hands‑on learning, guided exposure, and practical experience while working alongside an experienced HR team.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to commit 20–24 hours per week during the academic year, with the opportunity to work up to 40 hours per week during summer and winter breaks, in accordance with California employment regulations
  • Availability to work in-person at the Long Beach, CA office 2–3 days per week, with remaining hours worked remotely
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Psychology, Analytics, or a related field
  • Foundational understanding of HR concepts (e.g., recruiting, onboarding, employee engagement, basic employment law) gained through coursework, academic projects, or student organizations
  • Interest in learning how HR supports employees across multiple locations, time zones, and work arrangements
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with employees and cross‑functional partners
  • Highly organized and detail‑oriented, with the ability to support documentation, coordination, and process‑driven work
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and willing to learn new tools, systems, and workflows
  • Collaborative, thoughtful, and proactive, with a willingness to ask questions and contribute ideas
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and integrity when handling confidential or sensitive information
  • Familiarity with HR systems (e.g., applicant tracking or learning platforms such as iCIMS or Halogen) is a plus, but not required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational or Business Psychology, or a related field from an accredited U.S. college or university (or equivalent foreign institution)
  • Strong academic standing, with coursework or projects related to HR, organizational behavior, or business operations preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in human resources and a passion for people, culture, and organizational development
  • Previous internship, campus leadership, or part‑time experience in HR, recruiting, or administrative support is a plus, but not required
